Buffy, Season 2 Disc 6

Buffy, Season 2 Disc 6

2×21 Becoming, Part 1

Through flashbacks, we see much of Angel’s history. We see him sired by Darla in 1753, driving Drusilla mad and then siring her in 1860, and being cursed with a soul by the Kalderash clan in 1898. In the present, Angelus hatches a plan to awaken the demon Acathla, who will open a gateway to a hell dimension, and bring Hell to Earth. A web of conspiracy, suspense and heartbreak surrounds Buffy as she determines the time has come to destroy Angelus. Her decision is complicated when Willow uncovers the secret that may restore him, but Angelus would rather unearth an evil demon than return to Buffy.

Spike: Nice walk, pet?
Drusilla: I met an old man, didn’t like him. He got stuck in my teeth.

Kendra returns. Yay, no, BOO. No worries there really. The bad accent leaves, to never return. Angel is starting to look a wee pudgy. Did anyone notice that Buffy’s boobies seem smaller than the first season? And Cordelia’s seem to be growing. Buffy also appears to be forgoing the bra this whole season. That’s cool with me. Some of us aren’t able to pull that off. Power to those that can. I also notice for the first time that Buffy runs funny. I remember noticing this throughout the series. This must have been where it began. I’m wondering if it’s only when she runs in boots/heels.

For some reason, Angel seems hellbent on destroying all creatures on the planet. I’m just not sure if he gets that he is a creature on earth too. And I guess destroy may be a strong word. He just wants to send all the critters to hell. Party in hell, and more than the roof will be on fire.

2×22 Becoming, Part 2

Buffy arrives too late to save Kendra from Drusilla’s surprise attack, and ends up being arrested for Kendra’s murder. Escaping from the police, she goes to the hospital to find that Willow is comatose and unable to complete the spell to restore Angel’s soul. She also learns that Drusilla took Giles, and heads out to rescue him and stop Angelus once and for all with the help of a most unlikely ally.

Buffy: I have had a really bad day, okay? If you have any information worth hearing then I am grateful. But if you’re going to crack jokes then I’ll rip out your rib cage and wear it as a hat.

With the help of Spike, Buffy’s mom finds out she’s a slayer. Her first instinct is to argue with Buffy, and then tell her she can’t come home if she leave the house. Such an understanding mother. I mean, sure, the shock of seeing your daughter kill a vampire may be a bit much. But, one would like to think that the first reaction would be to ask some questions or try to understand or maybe get a straight-jacket. Giles gets continually tortured by our so unsweet Angelus. Not until Dru comes in and does her insane bit does he finally speak and give up the instructions for the ritual. I really dig Dru’s fingernail polish. Just an observation.

There’s a really cool sword battle with the (quite obvious) stunt doubles of Angel and Buffy. Still pretty cool though. Spike finally gets Drusilla away from Angel. See, he was getting all kinds of jealous of Angel’s flirting with Dru. Angel gets his soul back, and just in time for Buffy to kill him. He shouldn’t have opened that portal to hell and she wouldn’t have had to do that. So, we end the season with Willow in the hospital, Angel sucked into hell, and Buffy not able to return home. So… what does she do? Yah, run away and try to avoid the whole Chosen One thing… AGAIN. Sensing a pattern here, perhaps?
